CCE is currently seeking a Stage Director for its May 2019 production of Handel’s opera Silla, in English. Silla is a 2-hr piece, with performances at Warehouse XI in Somerville, MA May 17-19. The Roman emperor Silla (Lucius Cornelius Sulla) was a populist tyrant who murdered his friends and tried to seduce their wives. Silla may be staged with several modern twists, including, but not limited to the #MeToo movement, gender-bending, and current politics. The stage Director should be familiar with Baroque operatic conventions, and have experience in choreography and political theater, and be comfortable working with classical singers.
