​Sally and Thomas sadly contemplate their upcoming separation, as sailor Thomas is to leave on a long voyage. The lovers bid a tearful goodbye. Now that his rival is away, the wealthy squire tries to woo Sally, with the encouragement of the town busybody, Dorcas. Sally remains firm in her devotion to Thomas.

Sally to accept the squire's attentions. Just in time Thomas returns to rescue Sally and the two declare that they will marry. All ends happily in an unexpected twist, as it seems that Dorcas and the squire have formed an attachment of their own.
